It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Larry M. Forehand, 77, of Colonial Heights, VA, who departed this life peacefully on July 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with multiple long term illnesses. Born in Dothan, Alabama, Larry's journey took him through California and Germany before finally settling in Petersburg, Virginia, where he met the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Patricia Farmer. Their love story flourished, culminating in a remarkable 56 years of marriage.
A proud veteran, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly before their wedding, serving as a flight engineer and door gunner during the Vietnam War with the Americal Division in Chu Lai. His service to his country was a source of immense pride and honor, reflecting his unwavering commitment to the ideals of duty and sacrifice.
Following his military service, Larry joined his father-in-law, David E. Farmer, in the family business, Farmers Transmission Service. In 1987, he took the helm, guiding the company with integrity and dedication for three decades. Larry earned the admiration and respect of his loyal customers and community members, becoming a cherished figure in Colonial Heights. His exceptional work ethic and remarkable mechanical skill left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Tommy Nell McFall; his stepfather, Wayford K. McFall; and his father, Gaston Forehand. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Forehand; their four children, David Forehand (Joanna), Kathy Harris (Timothy), Christopher Forehand, and Joshua Forehand; eleven adored grandchildren, Haley Tyler, Devon Forehand (Cheyenne), Avery Forehand (Brea), Casey Gwaltney (Jordan), Logan Forehand (Lauren), Teresa Forehand, Adrienne Forehand, Connor Forehand, Jaxson Forehand, Aubreigh Forehand, and Maverick Forehand; and one treasured great-grandson, Keller Gwaltney.
Beyond his professional achievements, Larry found joy in the simple pleasures of life-gardening, savoring a perfect cup of coffee, and passionately supporting the Alabama Crimson Tide. He will be remembered not only for his unwavering devotion to his family but also for the quiet strength and grace that defined his character.
A memorial service celebrating Larry's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
