Karl Bogart Maddrey Jr.

On Monday, October 6, 2014, our Daddy, Karl Bogart “K.B.” Maddrey, Jr., passed away peacefully at Southside Regional Medical Center. K.B. was predeceased by his parents, Karl B. Maddrey, Sr. and Helen Douglas Payne and his sister, Frances J. McDonnell. He was born on March 2, 1933 in Petersburg, Va. He was raised in Ettrick, Va. K.B. loved sports and he grew up playing baseball and football on the ball fields of Ettrick, Petersburg, and Shepard Stadium in Colonial Heights. He played many football games at Cameron Field. He graduated in 1953 from Petersburg High School where he was a true Crimson Wave, #22. For many years K.B. helped rescue and find good homes for homeless and abused dogs. In the last year and a half K.B. was living at the Colonial Heights Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center. He met and made good friends there. He was able to see and talk to many of his old friends and classmates. He enjoyed reminiscing about the good old days. We would like to thank those at the center who took such wonderful care of our daddy and helped us get his smile back. K.B. is survived by his daughter Vonda Renee Maddrey Whirley and husband Bo. His daughter Sherri Denise Maddrey and her spouse Becky Woolley. Two grandsons Scott Whirley and his wife Jennifer and Brian Whirley and his wife Christina. Four great-grandchildren, Benjamin Scott, Emily Grace, Austin Michael, and Sadie Brook Whirley. A nephew and niece and numerous cousins and his wife Mildred T. Maddrey. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Lewis, officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA.
