Karen H. Scott

Karen H. Scott, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away at her home on Saturday, April 25, 2026, after a long and arduous battle with dementia.

Karen was born on November 8, 1946 in Norfolk, Virginia, but raised for most of her life in Hopewell, Virginia, graduating from Hopewell High School in 1965. Hopewell is also where she met and resided with her husband of 59 years, Dennis, and where they raised their two children, Andrew and Courtney.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James H. Hinton and Elizabeth Ermen Hinton; and brother, James H. "Jimmy" Hinton.

Karen was a well-known Avon representative in the area throughout the 1970s to mid 1980s, achieving the status of President's Club. First and foremost, however, Karen was a homemaker. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, lovingly referred to as "G-Mom" by her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and showed kindness and generosity to everyone. Fantastic at Rummy and a puzzle always going on the table, she had many ways of bringing everyone together. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and it was always evident how much love and care she put into decorating, gift-giving, baking, and especially gathering, creating lasting memories and a family bond that will continue for generations to come.

Karen is survived by her truly devoted husband, Dennis; her family here, daughter, Courtney Scott Loving; grandchildren, Paisley, Nathan and Patience Loving; and great-grandchild, Leia Rasnick; her family in Washington State, son, Andrew Scott and wife, Tara; grandchildren, Malia, Jillian and Kyle Scott; and four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Winnie Hinton; two nieces and one nephew; best friend of too many years to count, Susan Greenlaw; and many other family and friends who will miss her dearly.

With sincere appreciation, many thanks to her sister-in-law, Gail Scott, for all of your help, and to Laura, Erika, Bella and many others at Hospice of Virginia for caring for her throughout the last year and a half.

A celebration of her life will be held on June 6, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home.
