MAJ Julia Eloise Hambrick, U.S. Army (retired), died Sunday, May 26, 2013. Born July 3, 1922 in Clifton Forge, VA, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Wesley and Madeline Dill Hambrick. After graduating from nursing school, she entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She proudly served her country as an army nurse, serving in several countries on tours of duty. After retiring from the army in 1970, she made her home in Petersburg, Virginia. She was a long time member of Monumental Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher, was director of ministries, and headed the benevolence committee. She supported many organizations including: In Touch Ministries, Billy Graham, Samaritan’s Purse, The Gideons, Bibles Across America, the American Bible Society, many veteran organizations and many personal friends that are missionaries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Marvin Hambrick, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Nicely of Clifton Forge; a nephew, Rev. Mark Hambrick and wife, Devona of Newport News; a niece, Marcia Wham and husband, Ken of Clifton Forge; two great-nieces, Amy Young and husband, Tim of Roanoke and Lori Rowsey and husband, Allen of Dumfries. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 31st at Monumental Baptist Church with Pastor Barry Ginn officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
