Juan Jose Getty

Juan Jose Getty, 74, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on June 28, 2026. He was born February 25, 1952 in Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William Getty and H. Frances (Wilzbacher) Getty; sisters, Linda Getty, Gael Carney and Juanita Hernandez-Bertram.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Melba Jones Getty; daughters, Alison Getty Hale (Andrew), Karen Getty; son, Paul Getty (Kaylan); grandchildren, Sonny Lugo-Getty, River Hale, Jude Hale, and Elaina Getty; siblings, Sheila Getty (Ray), Sharon Millsap (Mike), Michael Getty (Sheila), Andrea Getty, Rose Marie Hernandez-Lewis, Anamaria Quintana Hammond, Marion Hart-Woolbright, Robert Hart, and brother-in-law, Kevin Crowe (Linda), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Juan made his career as a chemical operator at a manufacturing industry, where he retired after 45 years of dedicated service.

Juan was very involved in the community where he was a member of the Optimist Club of Hopewell, former member of the local Teamsters Union 101, Hopewell Emergency Crew, and former Youth League Coach.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and making meals for people.

He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, son and friend

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 W. Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial donations can be made to the Optimist Club of Hopewell, 1310 Lynchburg Street, Hopewell, VA 23860.
