With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joy Creggar Benfer, who was taken from us too soon on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the age of 61. She was born in Prince George County to her parents, Walter (Tommy) and Veta Creggar.
She retired, happily, from Defense Supply Center in Richmond. For the last 8 years, she has courageously fought Ovarian Cancer alongside many wonderful friends who have helped her every step of the way. The family gives special thanks for their warmth and generosity through her journey. She was an avid animal lover who treated her pets like her own children. Her love for fashion and shopping were never ending. "Shop 'til you drop." was her motto. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, especially to the beach. She was always up for finding new restaurants to try and her love for food was unmatched. She was a loving mother, grandmother, dog mother and sister who will be missed immensely by her family.
She is survived by her children, Brittany Jones and Jarrett Jones (Jewel Jones); her grandchildren, Milan and Bentley; her sister, Melody McLean; her father, Walter (Tommy) Creggar and her step-mother, Carolyn Creggar; beloved dogs, Cooper and Summer; first cousin, Monica Dragone; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
To celebrate Joy's remarkable life, we will gather on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 2:00PM at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of traditional mourning, we request the joy of your company in teal or bright colors and in lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA), National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC), Alzheimers Association, and the Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC).
