Joseph Francis Oliveri, Sr., 91, of Chester, VA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 23, 2024. He was born on March 16, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Alfred and Christina Pravato Oliveri; and was also preceded in death by his brother, Frank Oliveri; and a son-in-law, Ken Hatch. Mr. Oliveri was a United States Navy Veteran, having faithfully served his country aboard three different aircraft carriers. While in the Navy, he became an electrician, and received the rank of EM2 (Electricians Mate Second Class). After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he went on to spend his career as an electrician, working in the commercial, industrial and residential fields. Joe was a loving and devoted father, which was reflected in his volunteer work at his children's schools and their youth activities. He enjoyed painting, playing guitar, traveling, playing cards, Italian cooking, and was the King of dad jokes. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, and was active in the Cursillo Community within the Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his unconditional love, kind spirit, and supportive nature by all who knew him. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lillian Oliveri; six children, Joe Oliveri, Jr. (Roslyn), Larry Oliveri (Pat), Dan Oliveri (Denise), Kathy Snead (Duane), Glenn Oliveri (Nat) and Debbie Hatch; sixteen grandchildren, Dominick (Cate), Christina (Trevor), Neal (Lauren), Anne-Paige, Adam, Amanda (Tom), Aaron, Danny (Jordan), Dennis, Derrick, Nick, Ben, Zack, Mark, Bekah, and Ethan (Madie); twelve great-grandchildren, Evie, Joey, Selah, Arthur, Gabriel, Kinsley, Kasen, Averi, Tommy, Natalie, Kyleigh and Kennedy; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
