John Arthur Sandow

July 9, 1958 — July 20, 2025

It is with a very heavy heart we announce the sudden passing of John Arthur Sandow (O.G.), on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 67 years old. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to anyone who crossed his path.

John was born to Tracy and Mary Sandow on July 9, 1958, in Herington, KS. Growing up, his family moved to various places for his father's job. He started out on the farm in Abilene, Kansas, then went to Oklahoma, Arkansas, and finally Louisiana, which brought many life lessons and countless memories throughout his childhood. He graduated High School at A.M. Barbe High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana, before his family headed to Monroe, Louisiana, where he would meet his wife and start a family. He was a hardworking man who worked shift-work for over 40 years to provide the best life he could for his family. In 2003, he moved his family from Monroe, Louisiana, briefly to Dodge City, Kansas, before settling again in Dinwiddie, Virginia, for the past 20 years. His work was often his home away from home, and the men and women he worked with over the years became just like family. When he wasn't working, you could find him out in the yard/garden, cooking up something delicious on the grill or the stove, or just having a good time. Whether it was going to watch bands play and dancing with his wife, celebrating the 4th of July with a legendary fireworks show, giving people lots of candy and a laughable scare at Halloween, jamming out to Rock-N-Roll on the radio, laying out on the beach getting a tan, going out to the race track to catch some races, cheering on LSU football/baseball and IU basketball on TV, or joking around and telling stories, he found tremendous joy in spending quality time with all of his family and bringing people together. He was always willing to lend a helping hand ("if you got a quarter"), and to help figure things out. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. We were truly blessed with the time we have had with him, and our memories will help guide and hold us until we meet again through the promise Jesus Christ made for us. A date for the celebration of life will be shared once it has been finalized.

He is survived by love of his life, his wife of 43 years, Judy Sandow; his children, John (Erin) Sandow and Jessi (John) Wilson; his beloved grandchildren, Jossi Wilson, Jayden Wilson, Makenzie Sandow, and Jackson Sandow; his mother, Mary Sandow; siblings, Sherri (David) Dees and Allan (Kathy) Sandow; sister-in-law, Joni (Larry) McCutchen; father-in-law, Nathan "Zeke" Zametto; nephews, Ben (Cindy) Dees, Tyler (Mimi) Sandow, Lawson (Elizabeth) Dees, and Cole Sandow; four great-nieces, Piper, Lola, Elsie, and Willa; three great-nephews, Luke, James, and Thomas; cousin, Rex Sandow; and numerous friends who were considered family. He was welcomed into eternal rest in the presence of the Lord by his beloved father, Tracy Sandow, and other close family and friends who have gone before him.

To all that have prayed, called, texted, stopped by, and reached out to lend a helping hand, thank you from the bottom of our hearts - Judy, John, and Jessi.

Donations in honor of John Sandow can be made to the American Heart Association.

Isaiah 41:9-10 - You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest regions, And said to you, You are My servant, I have chosen you and not cast you away: Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
