John W. Rackley III, known as "Jackie" to his family members and closest friends, passed away on October 12, 2026. John was born and raised in Petersburg, VA, to the late Helen Brewer Rackley and John W. Rackley, Jr.
He is also preceded in death by his beloved son, Bryan Paul Rackley, and his devoted wife, Nancy Mallory Rackley. John was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, together they raised his two children, Bryan and Pam, whom he loved dearly. He always wanted the best for his wife and children, and ensured that Pam would always be taken care of.
John graduated from Petersburg High School, after which he attended college at North Carolina State University. John served in the National Guard before creating a career for himself in the insurance business, climbing to become the Vice President of Weaver Brothers Insurance Company. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Petersburg, VA. John especially enjoyed sports: such as football, basketball, and NASCAR racing. His N.C. State pride carried over from college and he enjoyed watching his team play football and basketball. Aside from N.C. State football, he could also be found watching the Washington Commanders, and was an avid and devoted fan.
John is survived by his beloved daughter, Pamela Doyle, and his brother, Mark Rackley. The family wishes to give a heartfelt thanks to Susie Stafford, who was Jackie's devoted caregiver for over fourteen years. Susie was his adopted "sister" as he often referred to her. Susie's love and devotion transcended friendship; she was a family member, his sister.
A graveside service for John will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Southlawn Memorial Park, in South Prince George, Virginia. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
