John Harvey Mason, Sr. “8 O’Clock”, 90, of Disputanta, passed away on November 6, 2013. He was the son of the late Meigs Mason and Mary Farrar Williams Mason; and was also preceded in death by one brother; and three sisters. John served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1943 – 1945. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. John was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and an active outdoors man who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was active in the Disputanta Ruritan, The Museum of the Confederacy, The Sons of Confederate Veterans and the American Legion. He is survived by his son, Johnny; daughters, Sue, Donna and Janet; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a nephew, Johnny Gill; and other extended family and friends. The family would like to thank Hospice of Virginia for all of their care and love shown towards Mr. Mason. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, with the Rev. Darwood Rowan, officiating.
