John E. Martin, Jr.

John E. Martin, Jr., 81, of Cobbs Creek, VA, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Born in Nottoway, Virginia, he was the son of the late John and Dorothy Martin; and was also preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte. John was an avid hunter, fisherman, and craftsman. He served in the United States Coast Guard and was a First Class Engineman. He continued his career with Continental Can and Philip Morris (Park 500) as a millwright, where he retired in 1999. He and his wife have been a part of the community in Mathews County since 1987. He served on the Mathews Wetlands Board for several years. He was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, in Gloucester, VA. Mr. Martin is survived by his three sons, Daniel L. Martin and wife, Leng, John E. Martin III, and David Martin; one grandson, Christopher Martin; his brother, Bobby Martin and wife, Lucile; his sister, Linda Young and husband, Tye Young; sister, Susan Gibbs; sister-in-law, Georgia Bates and husband, Doug; and longtime companion, Dyane Wymer. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 1, 2025, followed by a service at 1:00, at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, VA, with Pastor Jesse Hill, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in memory of John E. Martin, Jr.
