John Laurence Kreynus, 94, went home to be with His Savior December 27, 2025, after a life devoted to faith, service, and family. He was born on February 22, 1931, in Richmond, Virginia, and was raised primarily in Hopewell, Virginia.
John was married to his beloved wife, Lovdie Kreynus, for 59 years, until her passing. Their marriage was a testament to love, devotion, and shared faith.
He is survived by his loving children, Vicki Flanary (Mark), Laurence Kreynus, and Lori Dzierzek (Eddie); six grandchildren, Nikki (Seth), Tiffany (Travis), Dustin, Chandler, Maggie, and Tess; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a great joy in his life.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emily Kreynus; his sister, Inez Paul; his brother, Larry Kreynus; and his cherished wife, Lovdie.
John graduated from Hopewell High School in 1949, and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, John worked in accounting before giving his life to Jesus. Shortly after their salvation, he and wife Lovdie felt called into a ministry to Military. He devoted over 40 years as a missionary to the military, ministering to service men, women and their families. Sharing the hope found in Jesus Christ.
John was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church in Prince George, Virginia, and later New Hope Baptist Church in Gloucester, Virginia. He served the Lord and Military through Armed Forces Baptist Missions (formerly Servicemen For Christ) at Ft Lee, VA (Gregg-Adam's), Millington Naval Air Station (Memphis,TN), and Ft Riley (Junction City, KS). He loved the Lord wholeheartedly and was passionate about telling others about Jesus, a calling he lived out daily through his words and actions.
In his quieter moments, John enjoyed woodworking and birdwatching, finding peace and joy in God's creation.
John Laurence Kreynus will be remembered as a faithful servant, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a man who never missed an opportunity to share his faith. His legacy of love, service, and devotion to Christ will continue to live on through all who knew him.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2:00 pm, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Congregational Church Cemetery.
