Joel Nelson Mobley, 81, of Carson passed away on May 1, 2025. Born on September 12, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, Joel was the son of the late Harold Nelson Mobley and Laura Ernestine Elford Mobley. At the age of 17, he joined the National Guard and then proudly enlisted in the United States Army at 18. His military service took him around the world, including time spent living in Germany. After 20 years of honorable service, he retired from the Army and went on to work with Orkin Pest Control, eventually retiring from All Seasons Pest Control in Colonial Heights.
Joel met the love of his life on a blind date, and just three months later, they were married. The couple recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. He was a proud member for 50 years, of Edwards Lodge #308 A.F. & A.M in Stony Creek and enjoyed a wide range of hobbies including riding motorcycles, fishing, reading, working with electronics, and leather crafting.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jewel Faye Mobley; his sons, David Mobley (Jennifer), of Henrico, VA, Mark Mobley (Jennifer), of Dinwiddie, VA, and Brian Mobley (Becky), of Disputanta, VA; and his cherished grandchildren, Brandon, Andrew, Brooke, and Quinn Mobley. He is also survived by his brother, George Mobley (Lana), of Rogersville, AL; his niece, Angie; his nephew, Tyler; as well as other extended family and friends. A graveside service to celebrate Joel's life will be held at 2:00pm, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, 19312 Templeton Road, Carson, VA 23830. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son.
