While raising her three children, Jo Ann also enjoyed crocheting, bowling, and pitching horseshoes - the latter of which, she rarely lost a game. She was an excellent baker, and happily used her skill set to create wedding cakes for many couples. She was also known for selling Avon throughout Dinwiddie County and eventually became a beautician later in life. At the age of 60, she retired after surviving a major health challenge and enjoyed another 23 years as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Jo Ann was a member of West End Baptist Church and Living Stone Baptist Church, both in N. Dinwiddie.
