Jimmy Ray Morelock

Jimmy Ray Morelock, 85, of Hopewell, VA, died March 30, 2025. Jim was born in Inman, Virginia, to the late Rex and Minnie Morelock, on October 3, 1939.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Jim married his life partner, Barbara Louise Summers in 1959. After graduating high school he graduated from Wise County Technical School. He worked as a machine operator at Allied Chemical. Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting, but more than anything, loved spending his time with his friends at the Hopewell VFW.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Morelock was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, who passed away in November 2017; his son, Derrick Allen; brother, John; and lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Charles Summers.

Jim is survived by his two sons, Jimmy D Morelock and his wife, Toni, of Chester and Mitchell Ray Morelock, of Hopewell; three grandchildren, Traci, John, and Cory; as well as his many friends at the VFW.

Jim a kind and gentle person who greatly loved his family, was always there if someone needed him, always with a smile. He will be sorely missed as this is a great loss to those of us that knew him.

He will be laid to rest beside his wife Louise.

Services will be held at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, on Saturday, April 5, 2025, with visitation being held at 1 pm and a funeral service at 2 pm., followed by a celebration of life, at the Hopewell VFW, 1400 Lynchburg Street, Hopewell, VA 23860.
