Jeanette L. Horne

Jan 6, 1938 — Jul 16, 2026

Jeanette L. Horne passed away on July, 16, 2026. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeanette grew up in the German immigrant community of Deer Park. As a young girl, she remembered collecting scrap metal from the neighborhood to support the US war effort during the Second World War. As a teenager, she came to faith in Christ and threw herself into local outreach with the Presbyterian church. She often spoke of "Pastor Pete" who in those days inspired her to live a life of sacrificial mission.

In Ohio, she met the man who would become her lifelong companion and husband - Wallace. In 1962, the family moved to Hopewell, Virginia, where she lived the remaining years of her life.

Once her children were older, she attended John Tyler Community College (now Brightpoint Community College), where she received degrees in accounting and business management. She worked as an accountant and then as a comptroller for several companies. Jeanette and her late husband Wallace were passionate about their grandchildren and hosting their family for holidays.

Jeanette always enjoyed volunteering at her church, especially working with young people. She led the teenage youth group, teaching Sunday School and even sleeping over with them during their overnight youth events well into her sixties. She didn't stop youth ministry until her breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 70. By God's grace, she persevered and beat cancer to go on living an active life. She was even out watering her garden the day before she died.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace M. Horne; daughter, Yvonnda Pendergrass Sisk; parents, Elmer John and Marcella Fatthauer Luhn; and brother, Charles John Luhn.

Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Wanda Clarkson (Orville); grandsons, Preston Clarkson (Sarah), Brandon Clarkson (Kandace), and Dustin Sisk; and great-grandchildren, Asher Clarkson, Tobias Clarkson, Josephine Clarkson, Jasper Clarkson, and Wednesday Sisk.
