NUGENT, Jean Marie Lewis, went to be with her Lord on February 3, 2016 following a brief illness and under the compassionate care of Hospice of Virginia at Retreat Hospital. She was born on August 18, 1927 in Hopewell, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Luther Vernon and Eva Tolliver Lewis. She graduated from Hopewell High School and worked at the C & P Telephone Company in Petersburg prior to retiring to raise her family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years, Robert Lyle Nugent, and her daughter, Linda Nugent Barr. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Nugent Cheely and son-in-law, Joseph D. Cheely; three grandchildren, Andrew Shelton Cheely II, Peyton Cheely Edwards and her husband, Jonathan Scott Edwards, and Christian Alec Barr; her sister-in-law, Mitzie Nugent Lyman and husband, Joseph, of Colonial Heights; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was a former member of West End Presbyterian Church in Hopewell. She moved to Richmond in 2006 and was an active member of Derbyshire Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School class, the Joy Club, and the senior choral group, the Golden Tones. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 W. Broadway in Hopewell. The burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6 at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens in Prince George. Following the burial, a service to celebrate her life will be held in the chapel at Derbyshire Baptist Church, Richmond, on Saturday, February 6 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Golden Tones Choir, Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Road, Richmond, Virginia 23229.
