Janet Marshall Avelsgard

Janet Marshall Avelsgard, 70, of Disputanta, VA, passed away March 31, 2026. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, she was the daughter of late Albert Marshall and Virginia Marshall. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and Mimi. She enjoyed coaching softball and soccer, cooking, going to Nascar events with her son, and being outside. 
She worked for the City of Petersburg for 32+ years and was an active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Her grandchildren were her whole world and she cherished being a Mimi. 
She is survived by her husband, Roger Avelsgard; son, Christopher Whittington (Jessica); grandchildren, Dillon, Baylee, and Colton; sister, Joyce Marshall; niece, Danielle Kovie (Stephen); and stepson, Roger Jr. 
A funeral service will be held at 12pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, 22218 Dabney Mill Rd, Petersburg, VA. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service at Pine Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
