Jane is fondly remembered by her sister-in-law, Judy Eanes, of Birmingham, AL and brother in law, Dr. Robert Scott (Harriet), of Richmond; and numerous nieces and nephews in Birmingham and Richmond. Jane's extended family includes, Katie Brennan (Sean), Reid Baughman (Melissa), Kellen Baughman (Saige), and their families. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for Melanie Long, Alrina Nicholson, and Christina Hushie, Jane's devoted aides, who lovingly cared for her over the last several years.

Jane was born and raised in Colonial Heights and Petersburg, VA. She graduated from Mary Washington College in 1945, and married her loving husband, Frank, on June 15, 1949. Jane dedicated her time to family, church, and community. A love for music, the outdoors, history, travel, and sports filled her life with joy.

Music was a cornerstone of Jane's life. Her family loved to sing contemporary, classical, and religious music together. Jane played the piano beautifully, and she instilled her love of music in her children. Later in life, Jane fostered her love of music and community by joining a singing group at Cedarfield.

Jane enjoyed her garden, weekends at the James River, birdwatching, and walks on the beach. She loved collecting shells and had a keen eye for finding shark's teeth. A fierce competitor, Jane played in a weekly bridge group, enjoyed games with family such as Mahjong, Rummikub, and cards, and played tennis regularly at the Country Club of Petersburg. Jane and Frank seldom missed a football game at the College of William and Mary. When she could not attend her favorite games, she watched them on TV; it was rare to visit her and not have a tennis game on in the background.

Jane ardently researched family genealogy, sometimes traveling just to search through distant archives. A history enthusiast, Jane collected news articles from major events. When reading the paper every morning, she often found articles that she then mailed to her many, cherished pen-pals. Jane's letters were full of stories from her everyday life with family and her travels (including a Panama Canal transit and getting lost in the Roman Colosseum). They were written in such a way that you felt like you were together, chatting over a Diet Pepsi or glass of Chardonnay.

As an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Petersburg, VA, Jane attended services, participated in bible studies, and held several offices in the Women of the Church, including President. She volunteered in the Together with Important Goals (TWIG) Auxiliary at Petersburg General Hospital, taught children to read at Walnut Hill Elementary School, assisted the Walnut Hill librarians, and was a Girl Scout leader. Jane's thoughtfulness, quiet strength, and patience supported her in her many leadership roles, including at the Petersburg Garden Club and Women's Club. At Cedarfield, Jane enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. The Cedarfield residents held an annual Alzheimer's walk, and when Jane could no longer walk in it, she rolled. Jane lit up the hallways of Cedarfield with her bright smile.
