James "Jim" Howard Barbre (March 1, 1943- April 9, 2013), 70, of South Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 after a dauntless 12 year battle with kidney cancer. He worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland as a Firefighter and Captain for 23 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighting was a passion for him and he created many happy memories with his colleagues. Upon his retirement in 1994 he married his wife, Diane, and moved to Virginia. Jim was a member of the American Legion and the Hopewell Moose Lodge. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and he proudly served a year in Vietnam. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Lucy Faye Hull Barbre; and a grandson, Harold Aylor. He is survived by his wife, Diane Barbre; two daughters, Danielle and her husband, Scott Aylor; and Nicole and her husband, Art Lundquist; grandchildren, Lucas, James, Olivia, and Simon; and other loving family and friends. He enjoyed camping and going to the beach with his wife and daughters. He had a tremendous love for fishing. He and his wife spent many months at the Outer Banks and enjoyed several cruises and a trip to Portugal, where they created many wonderful memories. One of Jim’s greatest loves was his four grandchildren, with whom he always looked forward to spending time. Jim was a genuinely happy guy who loved to smile and enjoy life. Jim will be remembered for his quick smile and willingness to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. Jim loved animals and leaves behind two beloved rescue cats, Winston and Hester.
