James Moore Walker

James Moore Walker, 88, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, went to be with his Heavenly Father on August 30, 2026. Born and raised in Chesterfield, Virginia, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Ruth Walker. James was also preceded in death by his brothers, Maxwell, Raymond, Clarence, Garland, and Douglas; and sisters, Mary Ellen, Louise, Bessie Mae, and Nancy.

He was the beloved husband of Alease Walker who preceded him in death. Their life together was a special part of his story, and the love they shared remained an important part of who he was.

James was a man who believed in the value of hard work. He took great pride in working, doing things the right way, and providing for his family. Work was more than just a way to make a living; it was something he genuinely enjoyed. He was happiest when he had something to do or something to fix. Work wasn't just something he did - it was a part of who he was. From the age of 13 years old, James learned how to weld and he did not stop until he retired as an expert at structural steel and welding from Andrews and Joyner Iron Works after 55 years.

But as much as he loved working, his greatest love was his family. He is survived by his children, Debbie Witt (Jerry) and James Walker, Jr. "Juicy" (Virginia) who will forever carry his love and memories with them. He was a proud "Papa" to Ashlee Witt (Walker Roberts), Sarah Witt Kress (Skipper), Johnathan and Stephanie Jarrett. He leaves behind his great-grandsons, Walker Roberts, Waylon, Rowan, Jagger, and Deacon Kress, Aiden, Carson, Noah, and Anthony. James is also survived by his sister, Brenda.

And then there was music. James loved music- especially old country, bluegrass, and gospel. Whether listening to his favorite songs, singing and dancing along, or enjoying music in the company of family and friends, music brought him joy. Some of his favorite memories were undoubtedly accompanied by a song.

James also leaves behind a special thank you in his story to Samantha, his caregiver, whose kindness, patience, and companionship meant so much to him and his family.

His family will forever treasure the memories shared, lessons, laughter, and love he shared with them. They will miss his voice, his laugh, his stories, his stubborn streak, his work ethic, his countless phone calls, and all of those little things that made him uniquely him.

His passing leaves an empty place that cannot be filled. But his family finds peace in knowing they will be with him again - when they are reunited in heaven.

Rest peacefully, James. Your work here on earth is done, Your music has ended, but your song will live on in all of us.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive family and friends at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
