James Allen Rose

January 16, 1947 — February 24, 2013

James Allen Rose, 66, of Hopewell, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013. He was the son of the late John C. and Alma Perdue Rose and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Rose, and Ira Rose; and sister, Helen R. Johnson. Mr. Rose was hired as a Police Officer with the City of Hopewell at the age of 21 where he served as an Investigator in the Detective Division, Sergeant to the Uniform Division and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant after only 14 years of service. He also served as the first Community Relations Officer, which included public relations, Neighborhood Crime Watch Program and Crime Solvers. Lt. Rose graduated from Huntington High School in Huntington, West Virginia and attended John Tyler Community College prior to his employment with the City of Hopewell. He also attended Central Police Training School where he participated in many technical seminars and classes throughout his career. Lt. Rose was honored as Police Officer of the Year in 1985. Lt. Rose served as a Seaman in the Naval Reserves in active duty for the United States Navy. He loved fishing, the beach and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Lt. Rose is survived by his wife, Debra; sons, Devon Rose, Jerry Light, Chad Bosserman; daughters, Jonna Locklear, Tiffany Light; grandchildren, Kaylee, Logan, Austin, Braiden, Alexia, Zach, Audrina; brothers, Earl Rose and his wife, Drema, David Rose, and his wife, Lisa; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February, 28, 2013 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013 also at the funeral home, with Pastor Roger Dean, officiating. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery.
