James "Pete" Claiborne Pritchett, 89, died July 16, 2025, at his home in Prince George, VA. Pete was born June 16, 1936, in Petersburg, VA, to Robert and Irene Pritchett. Pete graduated from Petersburg High School.
Pete met his wife, Joyce (Garrett) Pritchett and after seven long years of dating, they married and resided in Hopewell and Petersburg where they raised two daughters, Andrea Pritchett Etheridge and Donna Pritchett Lundie. Pete worked for Allied Chemical early in his career and moved on to the Virginia Department of Transportation where he eventually retired.
Pete's hobbies and interests included family, weekends at Lake Gaston, woodworking/building, boating, golfing, and fishing. Pete and Joyce spent their retirement years at their lake house on Lake Gaston for almost 30 years before moving to Prince George, VA, to be close to family.
Pete is survived by his daughters, Andrea Etheridge (Tommy) and Donna Lundie (Charles); grandchildren, Brittany Testerink (Jason), Joshua Lundie (Sierra), Bryce Sykora, and Grace Ramsey (Derek); and three great-grandchildren, Everleigh, Raegan, and Lochlain.
We were incredibly fortunate to find Dianne, who, along with Genevive and other remarkable caregivers, provided dad with compassionate attention until his final day.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Garrett Pritchett.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Blandford Cemetery, 319 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA.
