James Walter Poe

James Walter Poe, 87, of Chester, VA , passed away on December 5, 2025. Born March 31, 1938 in Buckingham County, VA, he was the son of the late Samuel Elmore Poe, Sr. and Virgie Weeks Poe. In addition to his parents, Mr. Poe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty J. Poe.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberley Powell and husband, Jesse; grandchildren, Justin Powell, Christopher Dobyns, Kaitlyn Bonar; fur baby, Rocky; and a large circle of extended family and friends.

James served in the United States Air Force from February 17, 1956 to February 16, 1960 with Honorable Release from Active Duty as an Airman Second Class. He is a former employee of W. O. Grubb Crane Rental for over 35 years as he retired at the age of 80 as a fuel truck driver, AKA "POE".

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2025 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday December 18, 2025 at the funeral home.
