James Melvin Hamilton, 70, of Hopewell passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014. He was the son of the late Herbert L. Hamilton and Bertha Harnage Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton was employed as a power plant manager for Sodexo for numerous years, prepared taxes for H & R Block for over 15 years, was a member of the Prince George Masonic Lodge, #115 A.F. & A.M. and also a member of the Plant City Masonic Lodge in Florida. He attended First Baptist Church for 26 years, loved hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hamilton; his children, James R. “Ron” Hamilton and his wife, Shannon, Mark A. Hamilton and his wife, Kimberly, Rhonda K. Hamilton; grandchildren, Beth, James, Timmy, Tony, Samantha, Summer; brothers, Frank Hamilton, Jesse Hamilton; sisters, Melba Hamilton, Betty Hamilton; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 401 N. 2nd Street, Hopewell, Virginia 23860, with Pastor Darrell Boggs, officiating.
