James Nelson Hamill, of Colonial Heights, died September 14, 2013. He was 100 years of age. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Joseph Nelson and Lilian Puryear Hamill. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Petersburg. Mr. Hamill served in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II and retired in May, 1972 after 32 years of civil service at Fort Lee. He was a resident of Petersburg for many years before moving to Colonial Heights in 2003. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hunter Bland Hamill, a number of cousins including a special one, Ellen Andrews of Colonial Heights, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 17th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. Gerald Miller, Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating, assisted by The Reverend Robert Livesay, Pastor of Oakland Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
