James Rainey Emerson, Sr., 85, of Disputanta, passed away on Saturday June 30, 2012. He is the son of the late James T. and Bessie Emerson and is also preceded in death by 7 sisters, Alice Emerson, Nellie Berry, Elva Cox, Fanny Bailey, Mary Emerson, Annie Allgood, and Mary Wray; 5 brothers, Henry, Glenn and John Emerson, and Robert and Ira Crowder. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lillian Emerson of 63 years; son, James Emerson, Jr.; 3 daughters, Julie Gerhart (Herbert), Yvonne Goodman (John), and Patricia â??Pattyâ? Talley (John); grandchildren, Christine Brown (Jimmy), Shelby Emerson, John D. Goodman, Jr., Julie Rebecca â??Beckaâ? Goodman, John Mason Talley (Tanya), James B. and Megan Emerson; 3 very special great-grandchildren, Caroline Franchock, Emerson Talley, and Zachary Brown; 3 sisters, Myrtle Casey (Jack), Eva Riddle, and Patty Hughes; 2 brothers, George Emerson, Sr. (Mildred), and Edward Emerson (Bertha); 2 dear sister-in-laws, Margie Emerson and Helen Goode. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday July 2, 2012 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday July 3, 2012 at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Bermuda Memorial Park.
