James "Jimmy" Newman Doutt, 56, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on October 15, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Kathy Doutt; grandfathers, Newman and James; grandmothers, Tenie and Marg; and aunt, Linda.
He graduated with his GED from Hopewell High School and made a career as a hard-working warehouse supervisor. No job was too big or too small for Jimmy.
He participated in the Boy Scouts, "Order of the Arrow," and the dance troupe crow wing dances. His hobbies included going to powwows and making Native American crafts with his son, Mason, cooking on the grill with a nice cold beer, making fires and enjoying them with his family, listening to music, making silly memories with his children, sewing, and fishing. Jimmy loved seeing others happy, so holidays were his favorite. He liked going to the river, watching the rain, or enjoying nature in his free time.
Jimmy was a devoted husband, loving father, and caring PopPop. A peacemaker who always put others before himself, Jimmy was a good man who never met a stranger; and a strong man who didn't give up with a fight. He passed on many traits to his loved ones, including his work ethic to his son, Chase, and son-in-law, Brendan. His love of cooking was passed on to his daughter, Skylar. Jimmy and his daughter, Jaiden, had an unspoken rule that they took a picture before church. He enjoyed going on vacations to the beach with his wife, Lesley, and the kids. His dog, Ace, and cats made him happy!
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lesley Rook-Doutt; aunt, Alice (Bill); sisters, Julie and Anna; uncles, Kirk and Kenny; children, Kassie (Juan), Mason, Chase, Skylar (Brendan), and Jaiden; grandchildren, Kolbee, Jax, and Jaize; and numerous extended family members that he loved just as much.
The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
