Jackie "Jack" Harold Smith

Jackie "Jack" H. Smith, 90, of South Chesterfield, VA, died September 13, 2026. He was born on October 7, 1935, in Yukon, WV, to the late Berlin and Elizabeth (Hagerman) Smith and was raised in McDowell County, WV, by Berlin and stepmother, Celia (Brown) Smith. As a young man, he left West Virginia for adventure and experience of working in the shipyards of Buffalo, NY. Later he joined the Navy, where he sailed all over the world, traveled up and down the eastern United States, and lived in the nation's capital of Washington, DC, while on assignment.

After his military service, Jack returned to West Virginia, lived a short period of time in Chicago, and ultimately settled in Mason County, WV, to raise his, sons Vincent and Michael, with his wife, Virginia. He worked as a skilled Electrician until his retirement in 2003. As a widower, he later relocated to South Chesterfield, VA, and married Nada Smith. He enjoyed retirement by spending time with family, volunteering and helping to operate a local food bank, spending time outdoors, and helping others. He was an avid fisherman, man of God, proud veteran, and a role model for anyone needing a guiding light on how to treat others. He often said that he was lucky enough to have the two best wives and the greatest family that anyone could ever ask for. He felt he had been truly blessed.

He is proceeded in death by his late wife of 44 years, Virginia M. (Hurd) Smith; his late wife of 19 years, Nada L. (Scott) Smith; and daughter-in-law, Diane M. Smith.

He is survived by his sons, Vincent H. Smith and Michael A. (Kimberly) Smith; and his grandchildren, Joseph A. Smith, Lee Ann Smith, Jeremy C. Smith, Kyle L. Smith, and Evan M. Smith. He is also survived by his four sisters, Patsy Baldwin, Peggy Abel, Dovie Preskitt, and Nancy Bellomy; and his stepchildren, Ron (Tonya) Smith, Mallie (Willie) Breedlove, Tresa Linville, and Tony (Peggy) Smith. He also enjoyed numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service for Jackie will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 11:00am at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son. A light reception will follow at the funeral home.
