Jack Morton Kitchen, 85, of Hopewell, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015. Born in Sussex County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Richard Jasper Kitchen and Maude Evelyne Kitchen and was preceded in death by his brothers, William R. Kitchen, R. J. Kitchen and Will R. Kitchen. Jack graduated from Ivor High School in 1946, and was drafted in 1952 by the Cincinnati Reds before serving his country proudly in the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne in Fort Bragg N. C. He was employed at Allied Chemical Corporation as a Supervisor, was an Executive Director for the Hopewell Redevelopment & Housing Authority, the owner of Kitchen Stop and Shop as well as Hardware Feed & Seed in Disputanta, Va. He was a past President for Hopewell Jaycees, Region 11, Vice-President for Virginia Jaycees, life member of Junior Chamber of Commerce, past member of Disputanta Ruritan Club, Hopewell Lions Club and was a member of Hopewell Kiwanis Club and a charter member of the Hopewell Downtown Partnership. Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, usher and was a member of the property committee. Jack was an avid sports fan and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and supporting them in all their activities. Mr. Kitchen is survived by his wife, Anne Marie Thacker Kitchen; children, John Stephan Kitchen and his wife, Stacey, Cheryl Anne Bakale and her husband, Jay, Caprice Marie Corbett and her husband, Gene; brother, John W. Kitchen; sisters, Doris Groce and Molly Evelyne Soulli; grandchildren, Bryce Kitchen, Chase Kitchen, Jack Ryan Kitchen, Jeremy Bakale, Alec Bakale and Christopher Corbett. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service.. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 502 W. Broadway, Hopewell, Va. 23860 . Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park.
