On January 14, 2026, Irving H. Pritchett III, age 74, lost his battle with cancer. He passed peacefully at home in Smithfield, VA.
Irving attended primary through high school in Petersburg, VA, and graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1973. He remained dedicated to this college and attended Homecoming every year since his graduation.
He became a surveyor in Dinwiddie County, VA, where he worked for 40 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to play Bridge. He was also a dedicated member of the Dinwiddie Ruritan Club where, for 35 years, he cooked for their annual fundraising events serving many hundreds of people. The Dinwiddie Ruritan Chapter presented him with the "Tom Downing Fellow Award" in recognition of his service (an award honoring fewer than 1% of all Ruritans).
Irving is survived by his sister, Alice Crain, of Flatrock, NC; and his brother, Lanford B. Pritchett, of Smithfield, VA, and their families. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Leonard Pritchett.
Irving's passing was greatly eased by his friends and neighbors (particularly the Wright and Edwards families) who clearly proved that there are angels among us.
Services will be held at Lebanon United Methodist Church, 12450 Courthouse Rd., Dinwiddie, VA 23841, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception immediately following the service at the church.
