Irene Reynolds Tilley, 83, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away peacefully April 28, 2026, with her family by her side. Born in Hillsville, VA, and raised across the country as part of a military family, she was the daughter of the late Clisbie Irene and Virginia Combs Reynolds. She was a loving wife, mother, and Nana. She retired from Chesterfield County Public Schools after a fulfilling career as a learning disabilities teacher's aide. She was a member of the Second Branch Baptist Church. She loved hummingbirds, sunflowers, shopping, decorating, gardening, traveling, the Outer Banks, and having fun with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tilley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Riley Hamilton Tilley. She is survived by her son, Brian Scott Tilley of Virginia Beach; daughters, Sharon Tilley Correia of Chester and Virginia Tilley Schaar of Wake Forest, NC; grandchildren, Ashleigh Schaar, Austin Correia, Alex Correia, and Ryan Schaar (Hannah); sisters, Mildred Shockley of New Britain, CT; and Edna Garrett (Don) of Gainesville, VA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her family wants to express their gratitude to the amazing staffs of Commonwealth Senior Living at Chesterfield and Ascend Hospice for the love and care they provided to Mrs. Tilley throughout her journey with Alzheimer's.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, May 14th at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Private interment will be held at Skyview Cemetery, Fancy Gap, VA. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
