Hilda W. Burke (lovingly better known as “Gaga”) went peacefully home to be with The Lord on February 27, 2014. Hilda lived her life always beautifully loving and giving to others. She never met a stranger! The most precious gifts in her life were her “babies”, her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Born to Elisha and Eunice Worley on March 7, 1941, she lived most of her life in Hopewell, VA. Her favorite thing to do was to spend as much time as possible with her family. She loved the Lord with all her heart and always wanted to make sure she served Him in her life.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Ray C. Burke; her two daughters, Pamela Lumpkin and her husband, Cullen and Sherrie Buffo; her step-daughter, Merridith Harrison and her step-son, Bryan Burke and wife, Tracy; her grandchildren, Giordana Buffo, Alexandria Lumpkin, Giacomo Buffo, Ellie Burke, Veronica Lumpkin, Camryn Harrison and Aynsley Burke; her great-grandchild, Giaxon Brown; her loving sisters, Inez Ethridge, Juanita Langley, Shirley Langley, Jean Clements; many loving cousins, nieces and nephews and incredible friends. She was predeceased in death by her mother, father and brother Archie Worley. Gaga was loved by so many people in her lifetime and the world will miss her deeply.
The family would like to express the deepest gratitude to all the sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends that showered her with love and attention during her final days. Thank you for loving her. Love all of you “To the moon and back.”
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, also at the funeral home, with Dr. Robert Lee, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Memorial Park. Following interment a reception will be held in her honor at the Hopewell Moose Family Center, 4701 Western Street, Hopewell, VA. The family requests in lieu of flowers, a donation be considered to the church she loved so dearly, New Highland Baptist Church, 9200 New Ashcake Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116 or Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital at Johnston Willis Hospital.
