Henry Gwynn Seargeant, 79, was born September 12, 1946. He died December 28, 2025. He was born and raised in Richmond, VA, in the area of Westover Hills. He was the son of the late Henry Lyman and Mary Elizabeth Lugar Seargeant. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Henry loved the sports of hunting, fishing, and archery. He was an excellent gardening expert and could make anything grow. He attended three years of college and four years of Air Force service as Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War conflict. He worked several jobs after his military service, including an auto insurance appraiser for Kemper Insurance, superintendent on construction of highway signs in Northern Virginia, a manager of a parts department for lawn and garden equipment, plus wood burning stoves sold at E.T. Long Company. Finally, he started his own business, Lawn Enterprises, LLC, working with commercial sites but mostly residential. After a long and successful period of business, he retired due to health issues.
At age 26, he met his wife, Deborah Barrett Seargeant. They were soulmates for 52 years. Henry was a perfectionist and a very organized person, and was willing to help his friends the best he could.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Elizabeth Seargeant. Left to cherish his memory until they are reunited again include his wife, Deborah; daughter, Amy Bennett (Craig); sons, Michael Gwynn Seargeant (Katie S. Rhodes) and Henry Brandon Seargeant; four grandchildren, Lillian & Wyatt Seargeant, of Virginia, and Adeline & Easton Bennett, of South Carolina; sister, Elizabeth England Seargeant Beazley (Wayne); cousins, Bobby & Cary Muse and Melinda & Misty Nolan; as well as several nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
The family will have a private graveside service. A celebration of life will be held to honor Henry Gwynn Seargeant at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 West Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to your favorite Heart Association or send a loving honor donation to his family's church, Kingsland Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3209, Chester, VA 23831.
