Henry Clay "H.C." Barnard, Jr.

January 25, 1950 — April 2, 2026

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7

Henry Clay Barnard, Jr., affectionately known as "H.C." to family and friends, passed away surrounded by the love of those who knew him best. Born and raised in Altavista, Virginia, H.C. carried with him a creative spirit and a deep love for his family and others throughout his life.

H.C. was married to his devoted wife, Diane of 42 years, with whom he built a loving home. He proudly helped raise Diane's daughters, Kim and Debbie, embracing them as his own with patience, humor, and unwavering support. Later, he welcomed his son, Henry, and daughter, Tiffany, who brought him immense pride and joy.

Throughout his working years, H.C. was known for his friendly nature and willingness to help others, working in retail and crafting closet and storage systems. Beyond his work, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and he had a natural gift for working with his hands. H.C. loved building, creating, and working with wood-bringing ideas to life through craftsmanship and taking pride in everything he made. Whether fixing something around the house or building from scratch, he found joy in creating something meaningful.

H.C.'s greatest passion, however, was music. A talented country singer and songwriter, he loved playing his guitar and sharing his voice with others. He spent countless hours performing at libraries, nursing homes, schools, and community events using his music to lift spirits and bring comfort and joy. His warm presence, easy humor, and genuine kindness made him beloved by all who met him.

H.C. also found tremendous joy in his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing with them, making them laugh, and creating special memories they will carry with them always.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Diane Barnard; his son, Henry Clay Barnard III; his daughters, Tiffany Hypes (Shaun), Kim Moore (Michael), and Debbie Sheerin (Matt); his grandchildren, Jase, Kinsley, Brady, Rhett, Katie, Rachel, Tyler, Riley, Kelsey, and Maggie; his great-grandchildren, Cosette, Ava, and Haven; one sister, Kathy B. Harris and her husband, Bob of The Villages, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He will be remembered for his kind heart, his sense of humor, his creativity, and the way he made people feel. H.C.'s legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the things he built, and the music he so generously shared.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the Chester Chapel oJ.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd, Chester VA 23831. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026 at Mission Community Church, 13912 Rt. 1, Chester VA 2383, with an interment immediately following the service at Sunset Memorial Park.

H.C. will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
