Helene Wiseman Goodwin

Helene Wiseman Goodwin, 78, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026. She was born in Lerona, West Virginia, to the late William and Grace Wiseman. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, William Goodwin, Jr.; and brother, Rodrick Weitzel.
Helene, affectionately known as Lane, moved to VA, when she was in her thirties and began work at American Tobacco Company. She retired from the company as a supervisor after over 20 years of employment. Lane was known for her unwavering love and thoughtful heart. She ensured no one's birthday or Christmas holiday passed without sending a card in the mail, that was her way of sharing her love and keeping in touch. She loved the open waters where she and her husband vacationed on the beaches of the East Coast. She lived a life filled with deep compassion for cats. She was known for her gentle heart, fostering, and provided a loving home for dozens of cats over the years. Sometimes it was just feeding a stray, fostering a litter, or sometimes it was giving them a forever home. Lane leaves behind her latest rescue, "K-K", who will truly miss her loving touch. Lane is survived by her sisters, Dawn Smith and Jeanne Martin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Appomattox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lane's honor to your local animal shelter.
