Helen S. Martin. 87, of DeWitt, died at Bon Secours Southside Medical Center on March 5, 2026.Mrs. Martin was born in DeWitt, Virginia to the late John L. Slaughter and Mary Virginia Fitts. Helen and Earl got married on August 23, 1968 and were happily married for 53 years until his passing on December 1, 2021. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Ed, William, Smoky Joe, Randolph, Charlie, Jim, and Lou; and sister, Mary.

She attended the Virginia school for Deaf and Blind. She retired from Brown and Williams Tobacco Company. After retiring Helen enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cutting grass, scrapbooking, and doing puzzles. Helen, also being well known as TT, had a way of illuminating a room just by walking in it. She loved becoming a grandmother but especially loved when she became a great-grandmother.

Mrs. Martin is survived by daughters, Jennifer Martin (John) and Kellie Duckworth (David); granddaughters, Taryn Cone (Saran), Ashley Wade (Kivonte), and Nicole Duckworth (Korey); great-granddaughter, Thea Cone; great-grandsons, Dior Wade and Cash Wade; sister, Emma Jean Hinson; sister-in-law, Alice Slaughter; and plenty of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 11 a.m. with a visitation one-hour prior. There will be a procession to Asbury Memorial Cemetery immediately following the service.
