Hattie Blaha Cerny, 95, passed away on July 31, 2012, in Dinwiddie County after an extended confinement at her home. She was born on March 4, 1917, in Dinwiddie, the fourth of five children of the late Vaclav and Barbara Mach Blaha. Hattie was a life-long member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and a retiree of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 54 years, Ernest L. Cerny, Sr.; her brothers, James L. Blaha and Louis J. Blaha; her sisters, Frances Blaha and Annie B. Vinsh. She is survived by her children Nancy C. Edwards, Doris C. Peters, Ernest L. Cerny, Jr. (Sheree) and Jean C. Dise (Kelly); seven grandchildren, James â??Jimmieâ? C. Peters Jr., Lisa A. Tharp, Stephanie Denise Cerny, Ernest â??Chipâ? L. Cerny, III (Jennifer), K. Joseph Dise, Jr. (Virginie), Brandon B. Dise and Regan D. Lancaster (Kevin); four great-grandchildren, Christian â??Chrisâ? E. Tharp, Elizabeth â??Bethâ? A. Tharp, James â??Treyâ? C. Peters III and E.L. (Hunter) Cerny, IV. A rosary service will begin at 6 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6:30 til 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A funeral Mass at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church will be said on Friday, Aug. 3, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Southlawn Memorial Park; reception to follow immediately at St. Johnâ??s Hall. The family wants to express thanks and appreciation to the staff of Crater Community Hospice for their service and to all relatives and friends who offered support to the family and visited Hattie while she was confined to home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bereavement Committee at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 7310 Squirrel Level Road, Petersburg, VA 23803 or to Crater Community Hospice.
