In the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, George E. Williams, Sr., transitioned peacefully in his sleep and in the comfort of his home in Sutherland, Virginia, at the age of 83.
George was born in Dewitt, Virginia, to the late Harvey A. Williams, Sr., and Virginia D. Williams. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Harvey A. Williams, Jr. and Claiborne Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara C. Williams; his son, George E. Williams, Jr.; his granddaughter, Kaylin M. Davis (Jordan Davis); and his great-grandchildren, Aryn R. Davis and Casten S. Davis.
George was a hardworking man who loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, watching Westerns, and NASCAR. He grew up on his family farm where he worked in construction. George joined the U.S. National Guard and eventually George and Barbara opened a business on Lake Chesdin, in Sutherland, Virginia, Whippernock Marina and Campground, which they ran for 52 years. Many people may have seen George riding his tractor, cutting grass at his Marina, or he may have greeted you at the front door of the store with a smile and a story to tell. He never failed to give the best advice. He loved his community and talking about the good ole days.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Services are private. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 4814 Courthouse Road, Church Road, VA 23833.
