George Karl Stamos, age 87, from Petersburg, VA (of late residing in Hopewell), passed away May 22, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas S. Stamos and Allie Stamos Eanes of Petersburg. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 28 wonderful years, Sara Anne Cummins Stamos; three sons, Claiborne Martin Stamos (Jean), and George William Stamos (Judy) of Petersburg, and Karl Mark Stamos of Hopewell; three stepchildren, Sherry R. Fuller (Douglas), Richard Rideout of Colonial Heights, and Kimberly Ann Rideout (Robert) of NYC; eight grandchildren; three great grandsons; one sister, Pauline Bayer of Seffner, FL; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. George leaves behind a legend of country music, playing with the Dixie Revelers and making a recording in Bristol, VA, the birthplace of country music. He also performed at local clubs in Richmond at various times and played with a group in Carson, VA; and he was a member of POGO. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chester. Family and friends will assemble at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home for a Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service.
