George Irvin Clore

George Irvin Clore, beloved husband, father, Granddaddy, Paa Paa, craftsman, public servant, and man of faith, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

George was born on April 23, 1951, in Richmond, Virginia. Throughout his life, he was a man who valued hard work, dedication, service, faith, and family. He lived those values not only through his work and service to others, but in the way he loved the people closest to him.

One of the greatest blessings of George's life was his marriage to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Deborah Crews Clore. The two met while attending Highland Springs High School, beginning a love story that would span more than five decades. They were married for 56 years and built a life together filled with love, family, faith, and countless memories. Their enduring devotion to one another was a beautiful testament to the commitment they made so many years ago.

Together, George and Deborah raised two daughters, Melody Clore Spivey and Karen Michelle Christian, who were a source of great love and pride throughout his life. George's role as a husband and father was among his greatest joys. He loved his family deeply and took great pride in the women his daughters became.

George was a proud Granddaddy and Paa Paa to Addison Christian, Maisie Spivey Goodwin, Abbie Christian, John Mark Spivey, Jr., Ayden Christian, Emmie Spivey, and Acelynn Christian. His grandchildren brought tremendous joy to his life, and he cherished the special bond he shared with each of them.

He was also a proud Great-Granddaddy and Paa Paa to Bristol Christian, Knoxleigh Christian, and Beau Spivey. Watching his family grow into another generation was a special blessing, and he treasured every moment he had with his great-grandchildren.

George was a skilled carpenter whose craftsmanship became one of the defining accomplishments of his life. With talent, patience, and an appreciation for quality work, he built many homes throughout the area. His work was more than simply a profession-it was a craft he took pride in, leaving behind structures that stand as a lasting testament to his skill and dedication.

His commitment to serving others extended well beyond his work as a carpenter. George served in the Virginia Air National Guard in Sandston, proudly answering the call to serve his country. He also briefly served as a Henrico County police officer and volunteered with the Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad, giving his time and skills to help people in his community.

After his time in law enforcement, George returned to the carpentry career he loved. His extensive experience in construction eventually led him to building inspections and code enforcement, where his practical knowledge and eye for quality made him exceptionally well suited for the work. He served in this capacity for the communities of Hopewell, Prince George, Brunswick, and Chesterfield. He ultimately retired from Chesterfield County, bringing to a close a long and varied career dedicated to building, protecting, and serving his community.

Above all, George was a man of faith. He loved studying the Bible and could often be found reading, learning, and reflecting on God's Word. He especially loved talking about the Gospel and sharing his faith with others. His love for Scripture was not simply something he kept to himself; it was something he wanted others to know and understand. His faith was an important part of who he was and the legacy he leaves with those who knew him.

George also loved spending time with his friends. He enjoyed good conversation and was never one to shy away from a spirited discussion. He could engage in a heated conversation with the best of them, especially when he felt strongly about a subject. Those who knew him will smile when remembering his willingness to share his opinions, listen to others, and keep a conversation going. Those lively conversations were simply part of what made George, George.

George will be remembered for his craftsmanship, his service, his determination, his devotion to Deborah, his love of God's Word, his passion for sharing the Gospel, and his unmistakable personality. The homes he built and the communities he served are part of the tangible legacy he leaves behind. But even greater than those accomplishments is the legacy of love, faith, service, and family that he leaves behind.

George was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Chandler Clore; his mother, Frances; his stepfathers, Osborne Hare and Lewis Moseley; his sister, Barbara Jean; and his brother, William Earl.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Deborah Crews Clore; his daughters, Melody Clore Spivey (Mark) and Karen Michelle Christian (Poncho); his brother, Charles; his grandchildren, Addison Christian (Hanna), Maisie Spivey Goodwin (Christian), Abbie Christian, John Mark Spivey, Jr. (Kayla), Ayden Christian, Emmie Spivey, and Acelynn Christian; and his great-grandchildren, Bristol and Knoxleigh Christian, and Beau Spivey. He will also be deeply missed by his extended family, devoted friends, former colleagues, and the many people whose lives he touched through his work, service, friendship, and faith.

Though George is no longer with us, the life he built remains-in the homes he constructed, the communities he served, the conversations he shared, the faith he proclaimed, and most of all, in the family he loved so dearly.

His hands built houses, his service helped build a stronger community, and his faith helped build a lasting spiritual legacy. The greatest thing George built was a family surrounded by love.

Rest peacefully, George. Your work here is finished. Your faith has left a lasting legacy, and your love will remain with us always. You were deeply loved, you are deeply missed, and you will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 W. Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Drive, Sandston, VA 23150 at 11:00 a.m.
