Gayle Lewis Smith Jones, 95, of Petersburg, passed away Thursday night, September 4, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Mariah Cameron and Gayle Riddick Smith. Gayle was also preceded in death by her husband, John Emmett Jones and her twin sister, Mariah “Mickey” Petty. Gayle will be remembered as a clerk in the lingerie department at Rucker Rosenstocks in Petersburg. After retirement from Ruckers, she worked for a while at the Seige Museum in Petersburg. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her niece, Margaret Gayle P. Suyes (Melvin), a great-nephew, Brian R. Suyes (Melissa), a great-great-niece, London Olivia Suyes, two cousins, James Bryan Smith of Williamsburg, and Alma Smith Perkins of Myrtle Beach, SC. For 10 years, Gayle was a resident of Petersburg Home for Ladies where she was given good and loving care. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, September 7, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Blandford Cemetery. A memorial service will held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, at Petersburg Home for Ladies.
