Gary Lee McCracken, 53, of Hopewell, VA, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026. Born in Petersburg, VA, and raised in Hopewell, he was the son of the late Elizabeth and Robert Holland McCracken.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dawn Marie McCracken; his children, Amber, Emily (Chris), Samantha, Jacob (Ellie) McCracken, Johnathan (Maranda), Nathan (Lindsay), and Kelsey Bailey; thirteen grandchildren; his brother, Wayne (JoAnn) McCracken; his sisters, Donna and Mary (Kevin) McCracken; as well as two nieces, extended family members, and friends.

Gary was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family above all else. He was a 1992 graduate of Hopewell High School and was employed as a control room operator with Cogentrix and AdvanSix. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and the pride he took in providing for his family. Gary found great joy in turning wrenches and working on vehicles, a passion he carried throughout his life and one he took pride in passing down through generations. He also found peace in casting a line out on the water, tending to his garden, and always having a project to work on with his hands. Above all, Gary treasured the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren, creating lasting memories and sharing in their lives with unwavering love and pride.

The family will receive friends to celebrate Gary's life from 2:00p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T.
