Francis (Pete) Wayne Baugh

Aug 6, 1948 — Jul 27, 2026

Francis (Pete) Wayne Baugh, 77, born August 6, 1948, of Carson, VA, died July 27, 2026, peacefully at his home. Born and raised on his family farm in Carson, he was the son of the late Charles F. Baugh and Helen B. Baugh. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Karen Bowman Baugh; son, Robert (Bobby) Baugh and wife Kim, of Carson, VA; grandchildren, Mia and Zoey Baugh; daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Moorhead and husband Kenny of Clayton, NC; grandchildren, Maya and Miles Moorhead; sisters, Theo B. Mason of Carson, VA, Cheryl F. McBee and husband Mac of Stony Creek, VA, and many nieces and nephews he thought the world of. As well as his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William F. Baugh.

Pete served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969-1973 and was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, where he worked as a medic and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Pete graduated from Christopher Newport University in 1976 with a Bachelor's of Science degree. He then went on to build a distinguished 30-year career in banking and finance.

Pete had a passion for the outdoors his entire life. If you drove past his house, 9 out of 10 times he'd be in the yard. He loved tending to his garden every summer, fishing in his pond, hiking the homemade trails he made on his property, and playing on his tractor. He had an adventurous side as well, like when he went skydiving with his son, whitewater rafting in Montana with his daughter, and hang gliding with his wife. Pete's indoor hobbies included reading fictional westerns and thrillers from his favorite author, C.J. Box, as well as other numerous authors. Pete cherished every moment he had with his grandchildren, playing school and board games, and having outdoor fun together.

Pete was the most selfless person with the biggest heart and was a friend to everyone. He was a true fighter all the way to the end. Pete's positive energy and attitude radiated even on his hardest days.

We would like to thank the VCU/MCV Hospice care team as well as all of our family and friends who have supported us during his illness.
