Floyd Harding Ellis, 93, of Prince George, passed away surrounded by his loving family at home on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ardell Davis and Stella Maude Ellis; five brothers; and two sisters. Floyd proudly served his country in the Marine Corps. during World War II. He retired from the Teamsters Union after driving a tractor trailer for 30 years. Floyd was a faithful member of Monumental Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. On September 16, 2007 he was honored as a Deacon Emeritus. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most importantly spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen Purdie Ellis; children, Christal Merhout, Linda Stewart and her husband, Ronald, Sheila Chitwood and her husband, Charles; grandchildren, Michael Merhout and his wife Cheryl, Timothy Stewart and his wife, Amy, Jeffrey Stewart and his wife, Robin, Joshua Stewart and his wife, Christine, Tony Watkins and his wife, Monique, Todd Watkins, Travis Chitwood and his fiancée, Laura; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2015 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in East Matoaca Cemetery, South Chesterfield.
