Evelyn L. Pettis, 92, was born and raised in Augsburg, Germany. She was married for 40 years, to U.S. Army Staff Sergeant William C. Pettis (deceased). Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents, Hans Link and Elizabeth Link; grandmother, Babette (Betty) Ziesmann, and son, William C. Pettis III.
She is survived by daughter, Ruth P. Manor (Richard); son, Jimmie A. Pettis (Brenda); grandchildren, Dale E. Cawthon (Jessica), Kristen McAlister (Phillip), Rachael A. Adkins (Jonathan), and Richard M. Manor, Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Lauren Cawthon, Brandon Cawthon, Danielle Adkins, and Amelia Adkins.
Evelyn was a Dental Assistant in Germany; she was a housewife and ceramic teacher at Puddledock Ceramic Studio. She enjoyed ceramics, crafting, and sewing. She was a member of Colonial Heights American Legion Auxiliary and past regent and member of Hopewell Women of the Moose, Chapter 1180.
Evelyn was a very talented, fun-loving person who loved to dance the polka, she truly loved playing bingo and celebrating Christmas Eve with her family and she enjoyed making jewelry at the nursing home, even with her diminished eyesight toward the end.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, a funeral service will follow with interment immediately following at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, Petersburg, VA 23805. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
