Evelyn Marie Carelock Harrison of Midlothian, Virginia died on March 16, 2014. She was born in Franklin, North Carolina on January 30, 1930 to James Henry Carelock and Mattie Belle Carelock Redd. She was predeceased by her parents and stepfather Alan Lawrence Redd, three brothers, J. Aubrey, Harold and Charles Carelock; one sister Doris Hilda Hazelwood; stepbrother Charles Redd; her husband of more than 56 years Calvin Perry Harrison; and her daughter Diane Evelyn Harrison Retzer. She is survived by her son, Calvin Henry Harrison, of Portland Oregon; two grandsons, Spencer Harrison Campbell and Brennan Donald Retzer of Midlothian, Virginia; one granddaughter, Emilia Marie Campbell of Boston, Massachusetts; two step grandsons, Samuel Joseph Retzer of Brooklyn, New York, and Will Patrick Retzer of Charlottesville, Virginia; one great granddaughter, Chelsea Diane Campbell of Midlothian, Virginia; one brother Robert Hartley Carelock of Peachtree City, Georgia; one stepsister Frances Granlund of Jacksonville, Florida; and a multitude of devoted relatives and friends. Evelyn was employed by Hercules Incorporated prior to her retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Hopewell, Virginia, where she served as a deaconess for several terms, a member of the choir, and taught in several different capacities in the Church. Evelyn loved all of her family and was a devoted mother to her family. She was regarded as a dear and compassionate woman and will be remembered for her gentle kind spirit and welcoming smile. Prior to her recent injuries and rehabilitation she was so fond and thought dearly of her friends and companions at Chesterfield Heights in Midlothian and also with her Elmcroft family in her final months. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Hopewell, Virginia where her son-in-law, Dr. Don Retzer will provide the eulogy. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester, Virginia.
