Eva (Daywalt) Mowen, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, passed from her earthly life to her eternal home on March 23, 2026, and is now safe and whole in the arms of Jesus, her Savior. The faith she had in Him has now become sight. Because as a young adult she had placed her trust in Christ and asked for and accepted His forgiveness for her sins, she is with Him forever.
Eva Regina Possert was born on August 16, 1923, in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, to the late Stephan and Josephine Possert. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth Weber and Josephine Hachigan; and her brothers, Michael Possert and Nicolas Possert. She was raised in the Harrisburg and South Mountain, Pennsylvania area, where she where she continued to live and marry Cleason Daywalt in 1942 who preceded her in death in 1989. She and Cleason had three loving children, Elizabeth, Cleason Jr., and Susan - who passed in 2020.
Eva served for many years as a Substitute Dietitian for the South Mountain Restoration Center and retired in 1977. While still living on South Mountain and at the age of 78, she married Richard Mowen in 2001, who preceded her in death in 2004. She had two stepdaughters, Ruth Ann Carbaugh (Donald) and Kay Whitsel.
She was a charter member of South Mountain Bible Church in South Mountain, Pennsylvania, and made countless dear, lifelong friends while there. Eva was active in the Samaritan's Purse shoebox ministry since 1996. She moved to Colonial Heights, Virginia in 2014, and she became active in the Senior Club in Colonial Heights in 2015, where she served as Senior Club Secretary for 3 years and led in Bible devotions for 2 years. She also became very active with many other ladies in the Dolls on Mission ministry in Chester, Virginia. These ladies have made thousands of dolls that are used by missionaries to spread the Gospel across the USA and around the world.
Eva is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Kimbrell and husband, Dorsey; her son, Cleason Daywalt and wife, Marcia; stepdaughters, Kay Whitsel and Ruth Ann Carbaugh and husband, Donald. She was "Gram" to all, and is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandson, all of whom she loved; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service officiated by her pastor, Dr. Ray Haskett, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church, 17001 Rte 1, Colonial Heights, VA. The family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
The Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home is serving the family.
