Esther Massey Houchins, 91, of Colonial Heights, passed away on May 5, 2013. She was the daughter of the late John Arthur and Myrtle Bright Massey; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Bernard R. Houchins, Sr.; and a son, Bernard R. Houchins, Jr. Mrs. Houchins was retired civil service from Fort Lee. She was an honorary member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Crater Chapter, and volunteered for many years at John Randolph Medical Center. She is survived by her grandson, Chief Petty Officer Jason L. Houchins US Navy and wife, Susan; two great-granddaughters, Megan and Sarah Houchins all of Jacksonville, NC; a brother, Thomas Marlik and wife, Iva of Rice, VA; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Houchins of Prince George. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA.
