Ernest Duane Oakley

July 10, 1940 — October 30, 2024

Ernest Duane Oakley, 84, of Hopewell, Virginia, died October 30, 2024. Born and raised in Grand Gorge, New York, he was the son of the late Guy and Thora Oakley. He is survived by his children, Kris Oakley Latino, her husband, Bob Latino; Tod Oakley, his wife, Theresa Oakley; grandchildren, Nicholas Oakley, Katherine Oakley, Brianna Oakley, and Ally Latino; and brother, Richard "Dick" Oakley; along with several nieces and nephews. He was drafted and stationed at Fort Lee. While there, he met his wife, formerly the Miss Barbara Jean Bishop, the marriage lasted almost 60 years. Ernie loved to repair old cars and electronics. During his lifetime, he repaired many vehicles, including a 1960 Thunderbird, an MG, dune buggy, and tractor, and it wasn't unusual to see an old TV in some state of repair. As he aged, his favorite thing was to go to dinner with friends. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home - Hopewell Chapel at 11:00 a.m, Monday, November 4, 2024. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the funeral home.
